Vanity Fair's Proust Questionaire: 101 Luminaries Ponder Love, Death, Happiness, and the Meaning of Life has just been released. Vanity Fair has also put an interactive quiz on their website in honor of the book release. The questions are believed to reveal a persons true nature. Below are my answers.
- What is your idea of perfect happiness? There are many things that makes one happy. I don't think that anyone can pick just one thing. My friends are definitely a huge source of happiness.
- What is your greatest fear? Dieing alone.
- Which historical figure do you most identify with? Harvey Milk. It's not because I am an activist like he was or that I am in politics like he was. I think it's because he stood up for what he believed in and I think that I can do the same.
- Which living person do you most admire? My mother. Because no matter what struggles she has had to endure (many of which she brought upon herself), she has always stood strong.
- What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I'm extremely indecisive. No matter how big or small the decision, it is still very difficult to make.
- What is the trait you most deplore in other? Flakiness.
- What is your greatest extravagance? Shoes. I love shoes.
- On what occasion do you lie? Being a true Libra, I hate conflict. I will lie when I think it will from hurting others feelings. I know that in the long run, it only hurts the person later down the road, but I will do whatever I can to avoid conflict in the moment.
- What do you most dislike about your appearance? As I close the gap on 30, I am finding that my lack of body hair is my biggest dislike. This is because I have some crazy view of what a gay man should look like in almost every decade of his life.
- When and where were you the most happiest? Recently, I've been thinking about college quite a bit. Being in college was by far the greatest time of my life. I had very few cares, lots of fun, and some of the best friends I've ever had.
- If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? I would be skinnier.
- If you could change one thing about your family what would it be? I would have them be more accepting to homosexuality.
- What do you consider your greatest achievement? Coming out of the closet. Not only is accepting the fact that one is gay a very hard decision, but then telling those you love is hard also.
- If you die and come back as a person or thing what do you think it would be? I would want to come back as a book of my life. I don't think it would be a best seller or even a page-turner for that matter, but to have my life written and published would be something I would consider to be spectacular.
- What is your most treasured possession? Books.
- What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery? Being lonely.
- Who are your heroes in real life? My mother is definitely my greatest hero. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
- What is it that you most dislike? Dishonesty.
- How would you like to die? Definitely in my sleep, as painlessly as possible.
- What is your motto? Being a Libra, everything in life has to be balanced.
According to my results, I am most like
Oscar de la Renta (91.32%) and
Nora Ephron (79.63%).
